I’m an Irish plein air artist based in Dublin, painting outdoors on location across Ireland — from Dublin’s coastline and parks to Castlegregory, the Dingle Peninsula, and the wider Irish landscape. My work focuses on light, atmosphere, and the experience of responding directly to the world in front of me.
Painting outside shapes everything about how I see. Working on location means responding to shifting weather, moving light, and the character of each place — decisions that bring freshness and immediacy into the finished painting. Painting outdoors has shaped how I work, influencing my sense of light, colour, and atmosphere in both my plein air pieces and my studio work.
I regularly take part in Ireland’s major plein air festivals, including:
- Dublin Plein Air Festival
- Art in the Open (Wexford)
- Graiguenamanagh Plein Air, town of books
- Kinvara Plein Air
- Other regional Irish plein air gatherings throughout the year
Painting at these events — often in very changeable Irish weather — has strengthened my practice, expanded my approach to light, and connected me with a supportive community of painters.
Over the years, a number of these plein air pieces have also received awards, which has been a lovely encouragement to keep developing this side of my work.
If you’d like to see more of my available work, you can visit my Paintings for Sale page.
If you’re interested in a painting of a specific Irish location, I also take on occasional commissions — you can learn more about that here.
